We have moved some of our 19th and 20th-century material off site for a short period. We regret we will not be able to issue these items during this period and apologise for any inconvenience.
Scholars and students are most welcome to carry out research, and are admitted free. Applications to carry out research should be made to the Keeper
in advance. You will be asked for photographic identification and for an outline of your research purpose.
Research queries can also be addressed to the Keeper
by email. We advise all researchers to consult the catalogue
in advance of any query.
The library can admit readers from 9.30 am to 1.00 pm, and from 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. On Tuesdays the reading room is open from 9.30 am to 1.00 pm
. An appointment
is necessary as there are a limited number of places in the reading room and an increasing demand. Regrettably, in the recent past we have had to turn away readers who had not made an appointment. We hope to be able to facilitate you, but it is advisable to contact the library for an appointment at least three days in advance
, particularly if you are coming from a distance. We also ask that you order books when making your appointment.
Readers will be asked to read and sign our Regulations for reading in Marsh's Library form (94.1 KB).
You will be given a signed copy for your own files if you wish.
